Bibliometric analysis of “sarcopenia” in Web of Science

Summary Background Sarcopenia is defined as age-related muscle wasting by the combination of appendicular mass, strength, and physical performance measures. Here, we made a bibliometric analysis publications published in Web Science (WoS) between 2018 2023 terms “sarcopenia.” In total, 12,461 articles were analyzed. The authors, publication year, title, publishing country/journal/institution, keywords, categories, publishers, indexes, citation topics, reports reviewed for each article. All digital researches done on January 03, 2023. Results Among articles, according to documents types, 8855 research 1793 reviews, 1028 meeting abstracts, 3963 early accesses, 364 letters, others (proceeding paper, correction, book chapter, etc.). A total 7446 was open accesses. According number papers 3537 2021 (highest), 3349 2022, 3024 2020, 2532 2019, 19 top 5 categories list, 2792 Geriatrics Gerontology, 1857 Nutrition Dietetics, 1575 Medicine General Internal, 983 Oncology, 914 Endocrinology Metabolism. Additionally, 243 Sport Sciences, 201 Rehabilitation, 196 Rheumatology, 187 Clinical Neurology. Top topics Dietetics (6225), Musculoskeletal Disorders (803), Bone Disease (251), Urology & Nephrology-General (236), Hepatitis (163) (respectively). citing 2019 years, 39,534 (with self-citations) 39,088 (without self-citations); times cited 94,584 69,585 self-citations). Conclusion Our study highlights characteristics sarcopenia provides an objective insight into importance elderly patients with chronic rheumatic diseases.
